November 25, 2024
Whether you’ve been a patient at Livingston County Chiropractic Center since the beginning or are entirely new to chiropractic, you probably already know how important proper posture and a strong core are to spinal (and overall health). After all, a properly functioning spine is the foundation for a healthy body, and that means it should have great mobility and be free of joint restrictions and dysfunctions. If you don’t pay attention to your spine and posture, you put yourself at greater risk for overuse injuries. Here’s what you need to know about overuse injuries and how the chiropractors at Livingston County Chiropractic Center can help!
What Are Overuse Injuries?
Even if you aren’t one for intense exercise or extreme sports, you should still be cautious of overuse injuries. These injuries aren’t just caused by BIG repetitive movements like jumping and pivoting. They can also be caused by simple everyday movements, like keystrokes on a keyboard or typing on your cell phone in a specific way. Any repetitive action can cause discomfort and pain if you don’t address and ensure you are protecting your health.
Prevent Overuse Injuries
Although it may seem like overuse injuries are inevitable, there are measures you can take to prevent them. The first step is to schedule an adjustment with us at Livingston County Chiropractic Center. Our years of experience and education help us identify issues that can lead to injuries from overuse, and we can treat them before they turn into bigger issues. By targeting joint restrictions and dysfunctions that are a result of everyday movements, we can treat the underlying issue that caused your injury.
Another important measure you can take to prevent overuse injuries is to keep moving. Just because these injuries come from repetitive movements doesn’t mean you can stop moving altogether! Try to incorporate new exercise routines to balance the movements you make, which will also be beneficial for your health. And social distancing is no excuse — there are plenty of free online classes available so you can try something new like HIIT, yoga, pilates, or bodyweight exercises.
We also recommend you get plenty of rest. Not only will this promote better health and wellness as a whole, but it allows your body to recover and recuperate. If you want to avoid an injury from overuse, don’t over-use those muscles. Not only do you need to get plenty of restful sleep, but you also need to take at least one day per week to recover and break from regular patterns of work, play, and exercise.
Overuse injuries can happen quickly, so make sure your spinal health is a priority and keep up with your regular chiropractic adjustments. If you’d like to learn more about how chiropractic can benefit you, click here to schedule an adjustment with your local chiropractor!
