Self-Care & Seasonal Depression
October 11, 2024
When you think about living a healthy lifestyle, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Diet? Exercise? Those are both very important factors, but if you aren’t thinking of the health of your spine, you are missing out on a key element of good health. Here are some of our tips to promote a healthy spine.
Pay Attention To Posture
If you are like millions of others who spend the vast majority of their day sitting, then you probably know posture is easy to overlook. Americans will spend an average of 11 hours sitting per day, so it’s no surprise we are seeing much more information regarding the dangers of over-sitting. Sitting too much has negative impacts on your health and maintaining proper posture can help negate those negative effects. It’s easy to forget to practice proper posture, so start by setting an alarm to get up every 45 minutes for every hour that you are sitting. Take a short walk, stretch your legs and back, and get that blood moving and spine aligned!
Stretch It Out
Stretching may be the true underdog of exercise. One of the great things about stretching is that it can be done anywhere, it doesn’t require any fancy equipment, and you can do it for five minutes or fifty minutes and feel better after. There are even specific stretches that target your core and the muscles surrounding your spine to promote proper posture and spinal health. Are you suffering from sciatic pain? We know some stretches for you. What about lower back pain? Yes, we can suggest stretches for that too. Scoliosis? Yep, stretches for that. Herniated discs? You guessed it – stretches for that too. To help with long-term spinal health, stretching is best paired with chiropractic adjustments. Be sure to ask for our starching suggestions during your next adjustment.
