Self-Care & Seasonal Depression
October 11, 2024
This holiday season, you’ll encounter cookies, candy, pies, and a whole host of other treats. Guess what? You will be tempted to give in almost every time. Overindulgence in holiday treats is expected, but it can affect your overall health. Maintain a healthy diet & avoid a sugar overload with these tips.
The holiday season is filled with delicious treats and goodies for everyone. Unfortunately, these temptations can make it challenging to stay on track when trying to maintain a well-balanced diet. A healthy diet usually consists of many vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and low-fat meat, such as fish and poultry. Fish is the best option because it is an excellent source of protein, Omega 3 fatty acids, and has little fat. Either way, maintaining a healthy diet is one of the best ways to avoid sugar overload.
Many people experience sugar overload during the holidays. One of the best things you can do to avoid overindulgence in sugar is to limit the number of treats you consume. To start, try limiting your treats to one per week. Make sure you have a plan to help you avoid the treats at the holiday parties you’re attending. You may find that bringing along a healthy treat to enjoy will help you limit your sugar consumption.
By exercising regularly, you may be able to reduce your craving for sugar. Staying active is a great way to divert your attention away from cravings. The simplest of tasks, such as going for a walk or taking a fitness class, can help you resist the urge to consume sweets when you are craving them.
There is no such thing as being too prepared for the sweet tooth cravings that will surely creep into your holiday. For more guidance on how to avoid a sugar overload, contact us at Livingston County Chiropractic, your local Pontiac chiropractor.
